This is an excellent letter. I have no doubts that the Pope will be encouraged by it and will respond in kind. Although there is much that could be quoted, I think this lies at the heart of what the Muslim scholars are saying -- it should encourage the hearts of all Christians.

The scholars say:

Quote
As Muslims we say to Christians that we are not against them and that Islam is not against them.

Quote
To those who relish conflict and destruction ... we say that our eternal souls are all also at stake if we fail to seriously make every effort to make peace and to come together in harmony.

Quote
Let our differences not cause hatred and strife between us. Let us vie with each other only in righteousness and good works. Let us respect each other, be fair, just and kind to another, and live in sincere peace, harmony and mutual goodwill.

Interestingly, the scholars quote Blessed Theophylact's commentary on Scripture.

That's great, but what kind of relationship to the Muslim scholars have with the anti-Western clerics and their associates?

I agree. I think it's great that they can say those things as Muslims, but can they really presume to speak for all Muslims?

Not any more than any priest, pastor can speak for all Christians.

What is your point?
