http://www.acommonword.com/lib/downloads/CW-Total-Final-v-12g-Eng-9-10-07.pdfThis is an excellent letter. I have no doubts that the Pope will be encouraged by it and will respond in kind. Although there is much that could be quoted, I think this lies at the heart of what the Muslim scholars are saying -- it should encourage the hearts of all Christians.
The scholars say:
As Muslims we say to Christians that we are not against them and that Islam is not against them.
To those who relish conflict and destruction ... we say that our eternal souls are all also at stake if we fail to seriously make every effort to make peace and to come together in harmony.
Let our differences not cause hatred and strife between us. Let us vie with each other only in righteousness and good works. Let us respect each other, be fair, just and kind to another, and live in sincere peace, harmony and mutual goodwill.
Interestingly, the scholars quote Blessed Theophylact's commentary on Scripture.
