Dear Friends,

When you have a wonderful and holy man like Pope John Paul II, even the most stalwart Easterner should not have a reason to protest . . .

Dear Friends,

For those who might want to say the Pope is of the Latin Patriarchate, please consider that his mother was Greek Catholic.

And that Poland first received the Gospel from the Greek Church through Sts. Cyril and Methodius.

And that a Slav is a Slav is a . . .

Mnohaya Lita to the new Vladyky!

Dear Lemko Rusyn:

Magnificent photos!

Do you have the facility to show us the "group picture" of the 12 new Bishops/Eparchs, or 6x6?

We know from previous news/posts that there are to be 9 Westerns and 3 Easterns (Msgrs. Babjak and Sasik, and Msgr. Andraos Abouna, a Chaldean, who will become an auxiliary bishop of the Chaldean Patriarchate of Babylonia.) I am curious how the Chaldeans "vested" their new Bishop/Eparch.

Of the 9 new Bishops for the Western Church, I believe one is a Korean, another a Vietnamese, and, the 3rd, an African from Benin.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry folks, I can't take credit for the photos. They're actually from Yahoo's AP news and will probably disappear in a few days. frown

I must say, the new Byz. bishops picked nice vestments. Hopefully as bishops they will be proud "easterners" and not reluctant as one of their predecessors seemed to be.

Dear Alex:

Actually, along with the Koreans, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesians, and all of the Asians along the Pacific rim, we call ourselves
"Orientals." wink

Dear Amado,

So you only accept the first Three Ecumenical Councils, like Mor Ephrem? smile

Really Amado?

I was told that oriental is only used properly when discussing rugs, that the peoples are called Asians.

Dear davidB:

The Philippines and Japan, a long, long time ago, vied for the monicker "Pearl of the Orient Seas!"

Of late, Japan adopted "The Land of the Rising Sun!"

Our national anthem still retains the former, as a wishful description of our island(s) paradise.
