Why do Ukrainian and Ruthenian Greek Catholic hierarchs wear different vestments than those worn by other Byzantine-rite hierarchs, Catholic and Orthodox? I am referring to their large omphorion compared with what the Russians, Romanians, Greeks, Melkites, etc. wear.

Probably because they have not really changed from the style used during the 1596 Union. Look at the icons and episcopal portraits of the time. The question could be asked why have the others changed? Why did the pope change?

Those you have mentioned used both the large and small Omophorion. They only problem with the Ukrainian and Ruthenian Greek Catholic large omophorions is that they have become a "sewn" yoke type, sort of like the the Palliums wore by the Popes before Pope Benedict XVI returned to the 14-foot, folded Omporhion style Pallium. There are also some Greek Catholic bishops who have started to make use of the smaller Omophorion.

Sewn yoke type? The only time I ever seen anything like that was in the costumes made for Saint Nicholas day visitation. The Greco Catholic omophorion I have seen were long runners that button into place after they wrap the shoulders. What are you referring to?

Several Ruthenian bishops have made use of a type that is not buttoned, but a permament-shaped one piece Omophorion, the
front and back parts literally "sewn" in place. I believe the design started among the Ruthenian bishops of the Prjashev Eparchy, including +Vladyka Pavel Gojdich and +Vladyka Vasyl Hopko.
