Not of particular relevance to our Eastern communities but, as one with a long admiration for and devotion to him, I was pleased to read that the Cause for Canonization of Blessed Father Damian of Molokai is nearing conclusion.

Great news! Just for additional information, a Franciscan Sister, Mother Marianne Cope, who grew up in the Diocese of Syracuse in New York was beatified a year or so ago. She too, went to Hawaii to work among the lepers. She lived to be 80 I believe, and never contracted the disease.

Wonderful news. One of my favorite holy men.

Good book read: Leper Priest of Moloka'I: The Father Damien Story by Richard Stewart
