Let's pray for an immediate cease fire in the war that has just broken out between Russia and Georgia (formerly an SSR in the Soviet Union) over the "independent" Georgia province of South Ossetia.

Elements of Russia's 58th Army, ostensibly in support of the province's separatists, are now in the province's capital engaging elements of Georgia's own armed forces.

Various sources report many dead civilians and soldiers at the outset. Pres. Bush and PM Putin are both in Beijing and have been in constant contact with each other in a desperate move to de-escalate the war.

Lord have mercy!

Prayers for the swift and peaceful resolution of this conflict between our brethren

In his last Sunday's audience, the Holy Father pleaded for peace in South Ossetia.

As reported by the Catholic World News: while "[m]aking an appeal to the 'shared Christian heritage' of Georgia and Russia--both predominantly Orthodox nations--the Pope promised that Catholics would pray for a quick resolution of the conflict."

Through the prayers of St. Seraphim of Sarov, O Christ our God, grant peace to the world, especially in the lands occupied by Holy Russia and the former Soviet Union.

Convert Iran to Christianity too, and bring peace to the Middle East.
