The glassworks (I don't know the specific name, we call it vitray) are magnificent. The cathedral has a basilica shape, doesn't it? And is it constructed from marble? It looks like it, but can't be sure. There is the Bulgarian Church here on the shore of Phanar. It appears like it is made of marble from a few miles away, but the truth is it is a modular steel construction. The gossip is that the Ottoman emperor allowed the Bulgarian minority to build a church only if they could do it overnight. hehe The only way it would be possible was if they joined the pieces. :p I forgot the reason behind it, sorry. Perhaps it was prestigious that way, or since it was built on a land by the sea, the lighter a material of construction was used, the better it would bed. smile

Thanks for sharing the photographs, alice.

Hi Mustafa,

I have been to the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., our beautiful capitol where my son is attending his last semester of University.

It is primarily a stone Gothic Structure, like the ones of the Middle Ages in France and England.

Gothic Church Architecture has always been my favorite...with Byzantine being a close runner up! wink The pointed arches seem to reach up to Heaven, and leave a person in awe. The windows are decorated with what we call 'stained glass' (different colored glass) and depict different religious scenes. This is a traditional religious decorative art of Western Christianity.

I am glad that you liked the photos. smile

All the best,
Alice

Love the photo's Alice, too bad it is inhabited by... well I will be charitable.

After all, our Holy Father John Paul II the Pope of Rome has asked us to promote Christian Unity, leaving the things of the Past, let us press forward. Only trouble is that the situation is worse in the present than in the past. Anglican's for awhile were just schismatic, now its a different matter.
