Please remember in prayer the members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Coupon, PA. Fire destroyed their parish church building 9 days before they were to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the parish's founding. Though it is a Latin parish, the sorrows of one member of the Body of Christ are the sorrows of all of us.

Lord, grant Your People the wisdom to see Your Providential Hand at work even in tragedy. AMEN.

In Christ,

BOB

Coupon is only a few miles from Cresson, my Fathers hometown. Prayers for the congregation during this difficult time.

Prayers for our brothers and sisters in Christ, that this happened at such a momentous milestone in the history of their parish is indeed sad.

Bishop Joseph writes in his weekly column concerning this parish

Quote
"In all probability, rebuilding is not an option. For a while, Mass will be celebrated in the hall. Eventually, a final determination concerning the parish will have to be made. As in the case of other faith communities, shifts such as this in one's life are not easy."

The measure of God's mercy in this tragedy is that the fire, which apparently was fast-moving, began just as Mass had ended and parishioners were exiting the church. Had it begun sooner, there might well have been injuries or loss of life.

Prayers for the well-being and quick recovery of the five injured firefighters, two of whom required hospitalization. They rescued the Holy Eucharist and some of the sacred objects before being forced out of the church by the collapsing roof.
