Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the tragic fire at Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago that claimed the lives of 92 children and 3 teaching sisters and led, ultimately, to major improvements in school fire safety codes throughout the US. As a 6th grader at the time, half-way across the country, I still remember the horror and fear myself and my classmates felt in hearing of the fire and the solemnity of the prayers we offered for those killed.
