IV Synod of Constantinople?

The Catholic IV Council of Constantinople had a smaller number in attendance, and was convoked by the Pope. As far as I can tell, only the Papal legates and St. Ignatios, and not the other 3 patriarchs were there.

The Orthodox IV Council of Constantinople had nearly 400 Bishops in attendance, the four Patriarchs of the east, and Papal legates and was approved of by Pope John VII and called an Ecumenical Council by him. Yet it is not considered Ecumenical in the Catholic Church, why is that?

I have no idea. What I do know is the council of 869-870 is considered a robber council in the Orthodox Church.

The Fourth Council of Constantinople - known to the Orthodox as the "Double Council" or the "First-and-Second Council", was indeed approved by the Pope of Rome and everyone else of consequence.

It seems to have slipped out of Rome's awareness after a century or so; it has certainly not been disavowed. It would be well for Rome to issue a renewed reception of the Council.

The issue of declaring Photius a heretic was paramount for the Fourth Council of Constantinople which was called jointly by the Emperor Basil and Pope Hadrian II in 869. Photius had openly criticized clerical celibacy, challenged Pope Saint Leo III's crowning of Charlemagne as Holy Roman Emperor on Christmas of 800, and questioned the Filioque of the Creed. Photius was condemned by the Council. 200 years later the Great Eastern Schism became official when Michael Cerularius closed the Latin churches in Constantinople and was excommunicated by Pope Saint Leo IV in 1054. Also of concern at the Council was the growing Saracen threat.
