Glory to Jesus Christ!
As we prepare to begin our Lenten journey, the parish family of St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church (3455 California Avenue, Pittsburgh) is happy to announce and invite you to join us for our Lenten classes which will focus on “Christian Art, Theology of Color: Holy Icons”. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all the faithful to learn the history, development and importance of Christian Art in the Church. To understand the importance of Icons as an integral part of Divine Liturgy, being a theology in color, which represents a unique art form based on the Scriptures and Holy Tradition exclusively.
Creating your own Icon, step-by-step students will learn the techniques of Byzantine Iconography under the guidance of Leeann Lunak who has been a student of Iconography for 14 years. She has studied the egg tempera technique with Ann Capdeville and Very Rev. Archpriest Georges Drobot from Strasbourg, France. Additionally, she has studied the acrylic technique with Peter Pearson in Pittsburgh and assisted with several projects.
Classes conducted in a prayerful, meditative and authentic way will be held in our Church hall every Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. during the month of March (March 3-10-17-24-31). These classes are for beginners and no prior experience in Iconography or painting is necessary.
The tuition fee for these 5 classes is $150 which will include all the materials needed for the workshop (wood panel, oil, colors, brushes, gold leaf, etc.) and refreshments.
