Those are the icons I was referring to. I was at St. Mary's when Pope Shenouda III consecrated the church.
If you look closely at the icons they may not be so indifferent than you imagine.
Except for the icons out of his reach, Pope Shenouda showed no qualms when blessing the icons. Though they took me back at first, once I started to really look at them was when I realized that the icons were not as foreign as I first thought. Abouni Younan is unorthodox in no way that I can tell. I'm sure that if you have questions about the icons he'd be very open with you in his answers.
