Did anyone see the entire Mass for the anniversary of the passing of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen broadcast on EWTN from St. Patrick's Cathedral? I only saw the end. I believe I noticed Father Richard (Plishka) of the Parma Eparchy on the altar. I wonder if Archbishop Dolan mentioned that Archbishop Sheen prayed the Ruthenian Divine Liturgy in English in the 1950's in Pennsylvania?

Yes, I saw it; no, the Archbishop of New York did not mention anything about Bishop Sheen and the Byzantine Liturgy (which is a pity; Bishop Sheen offered the Divine Liturgy on many occasions, loved it dearly, and advocated a wider use of it), but two of our hierarchs were among the concelebrants: Bishop Basil (Losten) and Bishop Nicholas (Samra). There was a young priest serving in Byzantine vestments but I was unable to identify him.

I only heard a small part on Immaculate Heart Radio. Thanks for mentioning that EC Clergy were concelebrating. Praise the Lord! A blogger mentioned that it should be archived on CatholicTV [catholictv.com]. It doesn't seem to be at this time, maybe later.

Off topic, but on Archbishop Sheen, another blogger posted this step back in time to when he appeared on "What's My Line?" [youtube.com]. How much TV and the culture has changed!

It is now available there to watch.

I just looked over the video from CatholicTV. The Eastern Priest in attendance was Fr. Richard Plishka, Bishop John of Parma was also there, so I'm assuming Fr. Richard traveled with him.

Yes, the late Archbishop Fulton Sheen celebrated the Melkite Divine Liturgy once, in the '50s, when the Melkites started advocating English Divine Liturgies.

My dad a staunch Southern Baptist of 84 years, has stated several times how much he enjoyed the good bishop's program. He said he always looked forward to hearing him. Thanks be to God!

Yes, apparently it did not matter what Christian faith tradition you belonged to, apparently everyone couldn't wait to watch his program, or so I have heard from my family.

How wonderful that such a show was on network television in those days. Indeed, how times have changed. frown
