One regulation that I've never heard of is until last week is that on solemnities abstinence from meat is not required (Code of Canon Law #1251), our parish pastor informed us last Friday (no, he is not some liberal priest looking for a loophole in every law--he is pretty orthodox in his teaching and preaching). Unfortunately, I decided to oblige, abstain from another opportunity to grow spiritually through abstinence from a delightful food (maybe I was not happy for some reason or another)...and go to Golden Corral for lunch/dinner (last Friday was Solemnity of St. Joseph on the Roman calendar).

I suppose this is similar to the Orthodox practice of being allowed fish on the Annunciation and also on Palm Sunday during Lent, because we are not allowed fish any other day during Great Lent...

Feast when the Church feasts and fast when the Church fasts.
