I'm in the process of organizing a retreat and conference in April 2011 that will be held at the Gilmary Retreat Center in Moon Township, near Pittsburgh. One of the other members in my group suggested that rather than bring in a priest to celebrate Mass for our group on Sunday morning, perhaps we could just carpool to a nearby parish. I'm wondering if any of the forum members could tell me if there is an Eastern Catholic parish close to Gilmary. I'm not any good at all at using the search function in the parish directory/listing.

Thanks in advance.

My guess would be that the closest are in either Ambridge or Aliquippa.

Search 'Moon Township Byzantine Catholic Church" on Google and you will get about ten hits. I am not from Pittsburgh, but I know there are a large number of Eastern churches of all types nearby. Good luck.

Thanks for the search string suggestion - I was going about it the wrong way. I did find a couple; the closest is in McKees Rocks. We'll see how things turn out as it gets closer to the actual date (I'm one of those over-planning type of people who likes to have everything nicely laid out well in advance).

Eureka! The priest at St. George in Aliquippa used to be at my parish in Morgantown.

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

Sieglinde,

My apologies for the search function's limitations. A while ago, I needed to use it in some rather unorthodox ways to check data and forgot to revert it to a more straightforward format afterwards - with the result that it is not as user-friendly as it should be. I'll work on reverting it this weekend.

McKees Rock, Ambridge and Aliquippa are about equidistant from Moon; the same priest pastors both of the latter, I believe.

Many years,

Neil
