ok, from what ive heard from the orthodox they claim that at the great schism Rome seperated from the other 4 apostolic sees of the east. from some reading i can see this isnt true...

(i am greek catholic, and i am free from bias, and i think this list might bring some discusion)

the ancient patriarchates are (in order of PRIMACY, well i think lol) :

1. Rome
2. Alexandria
3. Antioch
4. Jerusalem
5. (last of course least lol) Constantinople

my point of view is:

1. His Holiness Benedict Pope VIX of course is Patriarch of Rome
2. His Holiness Pope Shendoua is Patriarch of Alexandria (I believe he IS the true Patriarch of that Church)
3. His Beatitude Patriarch Gregorios III (because the schism wasnt made until the "ecumenical" patriarch of Constantinople named another patriarch after the fact that a patriarch was already named)
4. Jerusalem honestly i have no idea...lol
5. well of course his beatitude Patriarch Bartholomew (which wasnt NOT founded by the Glorious Aposte St. Andrew lol)

I think, firstly, that your proclaimed 'freedom from bias' might be argued by many here, given the editorial commentary that you've attached to some lines of the post - commentary such as '(last of course least lol) Constantinople' that is unwelcome and frankly unappreciated on this site.

In non-polemical discussion, the ancient patriarchates are ordinarily cited not by primacy, but by precedence (which is not necessarily the same thing).

As to St Andrew the First-Called, even the 1911 Catholic Encyclopedia (not a source for which we here have much enthusiasm) acknowledges that he preached "in Byzantium itself, where he appointed St. Stachys as its first bishop" - a pretty telling claim to his having founded the See.
