Actually, the Romanian Catholic Church in Romania is abysmally poor, and it has taken them ages to get their new buildings, having been forced to jump through numerous hoops by the secular authorities (sometimes with, sometimes without, the collaboration of the Romanian Orthodox Church). Unless you have been there, it is hard to fathom just how poor the average Romanian is (especially in the countryside, though things have improved significantly since accession to the EU).
So, it would be perfectly reasonable that, having just completed a church through an extended process involving considerable sacrifice, there might not be enough money in the kitty to furnish it appropriately. Time will tell whether the absence of an iconostasis and icons is a temporary defect or a willful separation from the Tradition. We should do all we can to assist them in this.
As for getting their old churches back, I don't think there is much hope of this, and if they do, it might be a mixed blessing, as many of them have been unused for some time and are in need of extensive renovation (as are, I might add, many ancient and historically significant Orthodox churches, as well).
