Glory to Jesus Christ!

Hello my brothers and sisters in Christ. I have come across an interesting website: http://ancientfaith.com/

Do any of you listen to it? I just learned about via a friend on facebook so I have not listened to it yet considering the time right now. Whenever I come across something that is new to me, I always like seeking advice or opinions from those who might be more informed than I and/or whom I respect.

So again, the question is: What are your thought and opinions of this Orthodox Online Radio and Podcast?

Kyrie eleison,

Manuel

I have listened to, and continue to listen to many of the podcasts. A large number of the podcasters are converts from Protestant churches which means they are very competent preachers as well as being well grounded in the Bible. One podcast I particularly enjoyed was Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy. It is a very well done series contrasting Orthodoxy with a wide variety of other faith traditions. As a Roman Catholic I tend to ignore the occasional cheap shot as Orthodox being Orthodox.

Over all the quality of the programs is excellent. I would recommend also, Musings on Mission, Orthodixy and Steve the Builder. American Orthodox History is really interesting but it has been a while since there has been a new podcast.

Enjoy

Manuel,

I listen to Ancient Faith all the time. The majority of the programing is very good. I recommend the series by Fr. Fitzgerald. "Glory to Thee" is also a wonderful series on learning Byzantine Chant. Dr. Eugenia Constantinou also has a very good Orthodox Bible study program (I recommend a little caution here because her views of the West are based purely off of polemic and not genuine understanding). There are other programs for which I recommend caution because the speaker will criticize the West for perceived and not real problems (again polemics and not facts). Some of the speakers are also quite obviously Protestant converst to Orthodoxy, and they carry their anti-Roman Protestant mentality with them into Orthodoxy (I've spoken to an Antiochian Orthodox convert from Lutheranism who admits that this is a big problem, especially within the Antiochian Church). But overall the programing on Ancient Faith is excellent.

You are probably right about the source of the antiRoman comments on the AFR podcasts. There was an interesting discussion on romophobia in the western rite orthodox churches a while back.

The series that teaches the chants is very good. However, when I started practicing while milking my goats their milk production went down. I think not due to any dislike of Byzantine chant but more an aversion to my voice.

I do think there is a heavy Antiochian influence on AFR which I believe is strongly associated with Conciliar Press which was founded as I understand it by Protestant converts to Orthodoxy particularly the Antiochian Orthodox Church .

Jim,

I agree with all your comments, except possibly the one about the goats. It's been several years since I've owned/worked with goats, so I can't comment on their milk production and its relation to my singing.

I've noticed the Antiochian influence on AFR, and you are correct about Conciliar Press. I find the anti-Roman mentality very saddening as it simply adds fuel to the already raging polemic fire. The Antiochians also seem to be the most vocal Orthodox Church here in the States as well. So they are certainly a force to be reckoned with when it comes to Catholic-Orthodox dialogue.
