Please indulge me for a brief Latin moment while I jump with excitement over this election of Archbishop Timothy Dolan as the new president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. He's orthodox with a great warmth and sense of humor! My local Latin Bishop seems to agree with me: Speaking of Archbishop Dolan’s strengths, Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of Oakland said [nytimes.com], “Not that many people can combine that intellectual depth and that jolly, outgoing personality.”

Apparently Abp. Dolan had a different take on his election: "You might interpret this as the bishops are tired of short and skinny presidents." -- The new president of the USCCB, New York's Timothy Dolan

Glory to God in all things!

Many blessed years to Archbishop Dolan; may the Holy Spirit grant him the Gift of Wisdom during this challenging year.

Who was the VP who was 'deselected?"

Cardinal Francis George [catholic-hierarchy.org] and Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas [catholic-hierarchy.org] of Phoenix, Ariz., are the outgoing President and Vice President of the USCCB.

The new President, as reported above, is Archbishop Dolan. The new Vice President is Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville, Ky.

As an Orthodox inquirer, do any of you have insight as to Archbishop Timothy's views on Eastern Christianity and/or Orthodoxy? Thanks!

Correction

Bishop Gerald F. Kicanas is Bishop of Tucson, Ariz., not Bishop of Phoenix, Ariz.

As a Byzantine Catholic, I'm also interested what anyone knows about this.

Since our Bishops are in Italy and Greece, Our Lady of Grace Italo-Greek Catholic Mission and Society is under the omophor of the Roman Archbishop of New York, Archbishop Timothy Dolan. We celebrate and congratulate our Archbishop's election on this auspicious occasion!

Sorry!

Nah. "Sorry" would be called for if you forced Tucson to endure Phoenix' weather.
