Interesing news! Does anybody know the history of the Byzantine rite in Macedonia (Fyrom)? How many parishes do they have, and when were established?

Also, what happened with the Orthodox question of the "Macedonian Church"? I heard that the Serbian Church is recognizing somehow her canonical status, but haven't read anything in Internet.

It is strange that the Macedonian Church and the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) are very similar in many ways, but they don't have the same sacramental status/communion with the rest of Orthodox churches (Exept the technicality of the self-governed terms for the OCA). It's a pity that the Macedonian Church is so isolated.

From what I can gather from the
Macedonian Orthodox Church\'s website [mpc.org.mk] , the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate was establishing sees in Macedonia; interestingly, the MP came out against this action.

Thank you, Dave. It is confusing the church situation there. Did the patriarchate of Serbia recognize the their autocephally? I guess not.

Establishing "sees" is an old story, since one of the Serbian exarchs (?), sent to Skopje during the past two years or so was arrested by the government of Fyrom.
