Christ is Born!!

I've been asked by my parish to see if I can find some Eastern cathedrals that we might visit in an upcoming bus trip that would be open to both our own parishioners and anyone else in the Altoona area who would be interested.

I'll need the church or cathedral name, address, and the contact information for each place. I'd like to get to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, one of the Russian Orthodox Cathedrals, and an Oriental Orthodox Cathedral.

Can any of you, my brethren, help me out?

Bob

Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection Pokrov (OCA) 59 E. 2nd Street NY, NY http://www.nycathedral.org/. Fr. Christopher and Archdeacon Michael and Bishop Michael are old friends, the Archdeacon and Bishop being from my home parish.

While you are in the neighborhood, stop and visit St. Nicholas
Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church at 288 E 10th Street
New York, NY 10009.

You may also want to consider St. George's UGCC church in lower Manhattan. It is run by Basilians, and is on the Julian Calendar. Also, ROCOR has a cathedral in NYC, as does the Moscow Patriarchate.

Thymiato:

Thanks so much. I emailed from their website and received a very gracious call this morning from Fr. Mardiros Chevian, the Cathedral Dean. He was very warm and looks forward to hosting a tour of St. Vartan's for us.

Saint Nicholas Cathedral, 15 East 97th Street, is the original Orthodox Cathedral in New York, and can easily be reached by bus and by subway. Consecrated by Saint Tikhon, later Patriarch of Moscow, the Cathedral interior was recently splendidly redone.

Father Serge:

Father bless!!

I understand that this cathedral has recently been redone. I'm in the process of trying to find contact information and will certainly try to get this one on our tour list.

Asking for you blessing and continued holy prayers,

Bob
