Does anyone have photographs of antimensions? Also, can antimensions be 'consecrated' outside of the divine liturgy?? Are they always anointed with chrism? Also, I'm wondering where a bishop would receive the relics of martyrs for insertion in the antimension. The most beautiful antimension I ever say was one from the Russicum in Rome...multi colored and just really well done. I've also seen some from the Ruthenian Church that were pretty ugly!

It seems there are quite a few pictures on the Internet. Just do a google search and you will get a whole page of pictures.

You can also consult http://puluka.com/Liturgy/Antimensia.html

The book on the subject by Fr. Januarius Izzo is a good source of information about antimensia.

According to the Roman addition of the Archierotikon, Antimensions are now blessed outside of the Divine Liturgy in a seperate service. Chrism is used. Antimensions do not have to be Consecrated on Holy Thursday. If so, they are consecrated before the Vigil Liturgy. September 1st seems to be the appropriate day to consecrate them. Metropolitan Stefan Soroka, of philadelphia, issued a colored antimension depicting a central icon of 'The extreme Humility' flanked by St. John Chyrsostom and St Basil the Great. on top is the distribution of the Eucharist to Saints Peter and Paul. The Antimension is also in Ukrainian and English.

.

I believe most of them are removed from old antimensia.
