this is a real problem on all sides as the traditionalists on either side will not accept any unity unless it comes this way. It's "their way or the hi-way", as they say. Latins and Greeks exist on both sides that are this way.

The relations between Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy seem to be a gray area. My understanding is that the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox Churches do not formally recognize each other, and do not share Holy Communion. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Many of these important discussions about Oriental Orthodoxy and Chalcedon have been asked (and, to my mind, answered) in an excellent recent book by Kenneth Yossa, which I discuss in detail here: http://easternchristianbooks.blogspot.com/2010/11/overcoming-chalcedonian-divide.html

These seem to be excellent books; I must read them with careful attention.

Dear Dr. DeVille,

Do you happen to know if this book essentially contains the same content as his dissertation:

http://epublications.marquette.edu/dissertations/AAI3244570/

The price tag of the book makes it out of reach and I suppose purchasing the dissertation would be easier.

God bless,

I think that a good book to read, one that Fr.Kyrillos recommended to me, is Father V.C Samuel's work The Council of Chalcedon Re-Examined and it is very affordable The Council of Chalcedon Re-examined [lulu.com]

Here is a brief synopsis

Quote
This work by the late Father V.C. Samuel of the Indian Orthodox Church is the fruit of an entire life devoted to the study of the Orthodox faith. It is perhaps the most important study of Christology and the Council of Chalcedon to be published in the 20th century, and it is a privilege to be involved in its re-publication in the 21st century for a new generation of students and christians
