This may be of historical interest. From the file description: "The Eastern Churches and Catholic Unity," edited by Maximos IV Sayegh, the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch. These are a series of essays revealing concerns of the Melkite Church (an Eastern Catholic Church in union with the Pope of Rome) on the eve of Vatican II. Essays cover relations with Orthodox Christians, Roman Catholics, latinization, papal authority and the Byzantine liturgy in the vernacular. It can be read online or downloaded here. [ archive.org]

What impressed me most is the continuity of vision within the Melkite Church--the desire to be fully Orthodox and in communion with the Church of Rome, with the ultimate goal of reuniting the Chalcedonian Orthodox Churches of Antioch under a single hierarchy. Half a century of consistent policy and action--quite unusual in any Church, don't you think?

Yes, the Melkite Greek Catholic Church is to be commended for its work towards the reunion of Orthodoxy and Catholicism. I've only done a quick read so far but it looks like a good source to understand some of the historical tensions, especially as they relate to how Vatican II impacted the Eastern Catholic Churches.

I would download the PDFs of many of these archive.org books even if you don't plan to read them until later. This book is listed on archive.org as "public domain", but actually shows on its copyright page 1963, so it is quite possible that someone would remove it, as it violates the (insane) copyright laws of most countries to post it freely.

I think that in America, copyright of items published in 1963 or earlier has expired, unless it was specifically renewed.

The only way that you will have a unified heirarchy in the Antiochene Patriarchate is for the Byzatines to concide to the Syriac Heirarchy. If they do not you will always have at least two different heirarchies for this Patriarchate.
