Please pray for the repose of the soul of Archduke Otto von Habsburg-Lothringen, eldest son of Blessed Charles of Austria and the last crown prince of Austria-Hungary, who fell asleep in the Lord on Monday 4th July at his home in Poecking, Bavaria. He was 98.

May his memory be eternal!

By the way, who is the pretender to the throne now that Archduke Otto has reposed in the Lord?

Memory eternal

He visited the University of Dallas one back in the early '70s and I met him in passing. I was too green to realize I was meeting a man with such a colorful and adventuresome past - much less that he was the son of an Emperor who would eventually be beatified. The beatification cause for his mother, the Empress Zita, has also already commenced.

May his memory be eternal and may families, societies and communities torn by violence and terror come to know peace and reconciliation, through the prayers of Bl. Charles of Austria.

An Austrian friend posted this joke attributed to the Archduke:

An aide asked if he had seen the Austria-Hungary football (soccer) match the night before. The deadpan reply: "No, whom were we playing?"

Shlomo Latin Catholic,

That was a great article. There was only one mistake. Otto was elected as a member of the Christian Social Union the Barvarian sister party to the Christian Democrats. Otto's father, Blessed Karl is one of the Western Saints that I pray to.

I still hope that the Hapsburgs comeback. I wrote two papers in college on the Austro-Hungarian Empire; the second of which showed that if Karl's vision for his empire was agreed to by the allies, Hitler would not have been able to have gained as much power as he did, and showed that a unified Central Europe would have been strong enough to have stopped him.

Yuhannon,

You are of course right. Dr Otto von Habsburg did indeed represent the Christian Social Union, the Bavarian sister party of the Christian Democratic Party.

Someone should alert the author of the article about this error.

The body of Dr Otto von Habsburg was [bbc.co.uk] buried [bbc.co.uk] in the crypt of the Capuchin Church in Vienna today. His heart will be buried tomorrow at the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma in Hungary.

Requiescat in pace!
Ruhe in Frieden!
Nyugodjék békében!
