Everyone,
I am new to this forum and in learning about Catholicism. I am not a theologian but I am trying to understand the differences between Roman Catholicism and the Byzantine Catholic Church and the Orthodox Churches. This includes the topic of Mary. Sometimes theological discussions can be over my head.
I have done alot of reading, including on this website, and here is what I understand so far: I understand the Scriptures where Mary is called "Blessed". No Protestants call her Blessed that I know of, and yet the Scriptures are clear about this.
I also understand calling her "Mother". In fact when I ask her to intercede for me or someone else, this is how I ask for her help. I refer to her as Mother Mary. I hope this is not viewed in a negative way. It is simply how I can relate to her best.
I also understand how she can be referred to as the "Queen of Heaven", due to the verses in the book of Revelation. I'm not sure about this myself, but I do understand where it comes from.
My question is this though -- do the Eastern Churches accept the idea of Mary being sinless? I think I do understand the difference between original sin and actual sin but I am trying to figure out this view of Mary.
Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated! Please pray for me as I continue to seek the Lord. Thanks in advance.
David
