Glory to Jesus Christ!
This coming Wednesday, October 23, the Melkite Greek Catholic community in San Diego will celebrate their patronal feast day. (it is also my name's day)
The Divine Liturgy of St. James will be celebrated at 7pm at Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church. Archimandrite James (Babcock)will celebrate the liturgy with Fr. James Bankston (UGCC) and Fr. Robert Pipta (BCC) concelebrating.
All are welcome who are in the Southern California area.
Holy Angels Byzantine Catholic Church 2235 Galahad Road, San Diego, CA 92123

Happy Namesday Sir!
And you are so lucky to attend the Liturgy of St James on that day!
The Liturgy of St James is also celebrated on the Sunday after Nativity as it is a feast of St James as well.
I wonder when this Liturgy can be celebrated outside these two days?

Alex Every Sunday in the Syriac/Malankara Liturgy! =)

At New Skete it is served every Sunday of the Great Fast. At St. Michael's (Russian) in Manhattan we serve it twice a year on the Lord's brother's feast days. I have it on good authority that during the Soviet yoke in Russia it was served monthly.

We've had a "spirited discussion" (ha ha) at oc.net regarding how to serve this Liturgy.
Is it "versus populum" in the Melkite rubric? Apparently all sorts of versions have circulated in the Orthosphere over the years.
(BTW, is Father Pipta originally from Endicott, NY?)

Glory to Jesus Christ! DMD, I've attended a liturgy of St. James celebrated by Fr. James Babcock in the past (and look forward to this Wednesday's liturgy too ), and it was ad orientem. Re: Fr. Robert, he is a native Californian. He has family from the East Coast but I don't know anything specific about NY.
