This is a compact but at times dense presentation of fundamental teachings arising from the Eastern context. Lossky is especially indebted to St. Gregory of Nyssa, St. Maximus the Confessor and St. John of Damascus for his presentation of Christian anthropology. He looks at the nature of theology before delving into God's nature, creation, sin, Christology, and closes with more consideration of anthropology (esp. personhood). While Lossky's thinking is firmly anchored in Eastern Tradition, he is irenic in his few mentions of the Western Tradition, eschewing heavy polemics for a clear presentation of the Eastern teaching. I recommend this book to serious students of Eastern theology and bet it will give those from the Western stream some things to consider.
