I would like to ask how a lay person can change the Rite, from Latin Rite to the Byzantine Rite.

I don't know if I need an official document, or I can change it without any permission.

Thank you very much in advance.
Thomas.

Hi TomLer!

Welcome to The Byzantine Forum!

The process for a "Change of Ritual Church" (aka "Change of Rite") is started by one's pastor. It generally involves paperwork. Your Byzantine pastor determines your suitability (generally after a year or more of expressed desire and being active in the parish). He then submits a request to his bishop who then coordinates everything with the Latin bishop.

Speak to your Byzantine pastor for more details.

John
