I'm sorry to report that my Mother, Jean Helen (Katchur) Figel, passed away quietly and peacefully very early Tuesday here at my home in her comfy bed. She was a great inspiration to all of us, to all our family, and all those who knew her in the Church and in Girl Scouts. She had a full life and we will all miss her. Visitation is 2-8 pm at Jobe Funeral Home in Turtle Creek, PA on Wednesday, April 7, continuing at St Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church in Irwin, PA at 9 am on Thursday, April 8, followed by the Bright Week Funeral Liturgy at 10 am. Internment will follow in St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in North Versailles next to Dad. She will be with him just in time for his 91st birthday on April 9, 2021 -- I can just imagine the party! Eternal memory! Vicnaja jej pamjat'!
My condolences to you and your family on your Mom's passing.
O God of all spiritual and corporeal beings, You Who trampled death, broke the power of Satan and granted life to the whole world, now, O Lord, grant rest to the soul of Your departed handmaiden, Jean, in a place of light, freshness, and peace, where there is neither pain, nor sorrow, nor mourning, but only life everlasting.
As You are a gracious God and the Lover of mankind, forgive her every transgression committed by her in word, thought, or deed, since there is no man alive who has not sinned, for You alone are without sin and You are the Resurrection and the Life, O Christ our God, and we render glory to You, together with Your Eternal Father, and Your most Holy, gracious, and life-giving Spirit, now and always and forever.
May her memory be eternal and may her loved ones be comforted in the prayerful expectation of being reunited with her in Heaven.
"One day all our ethnic traits ... will have disappeared. Time itself is seeing to this. And so we can not think of our communities as ethnic parishes, ... unless we wish to assure the death of our community."
My condolences and prayers for the repose of your mother. You have done an incredible job taking care of her. I will keep her, you and your family in my prayers, especially during the rest of Holy Week and Pascha.
