Hi all!
I'm a fully initiated Latin Rite Catholic who was confirmed without a patron saint (my confirmation was later in life and under atypical circumstances). Ever since, I've felt there has been something missing in my prayer and have been searching for a patron with whom I can truly experience the communion of the saints. As my username suggests, my name is Robert, and while its technically a Christian name, that was not the intention in which it was given. As such, it feels somewhat arbitrary to simply adopt St. Robert Bellarmine or Robert of Molesme as a patron (as wonderful as they are!)
On top of this, I've been feeling the pull towards Eastern Catholicism, its liturgy and theological emphases. As part of my daily spiritual practice, I read the daily entries of Butler's Lives of the Saints and have found this to be a fruitful exercise. It does, however, have a decidedly western focus. Is anyone aware of a "Lives of the Saints" series focused on the East? Ideally, of course, would be from an Eastern Catholic perspective, but I'm open to an Orthodox publication, assuming it's not too polemical against popery! I'd love to discover more eastern saints and perhaps discover one to especially commune with as I discern the call to the Byzantine rite.
Alternatively, any advice on discovering a patron saint generally speaking?
