That's the one big problem with forums. If you haven't kept up, you end up replying as you go along to a message, and then suddenly come upon a message where you realize that perhaps you shouldn't be posting, thus making you look like you ignore such directives!

They've become our allies because they too have become a persecuted minority! smile

I think we better pay fine attention to Fr. Deacon Ed . . .

He sounds a bit put off, and I can't imagine him like that.

To all concerned,
I have a great respect and admiration for the Roman Catholic Church and wouldn't dream of starting a thread to bash it. I just had some "why" questions that I was hoping to get answered quickly and concisely.
Please forgive me if I was out of line on this. [/b]
Paul,

Your question was fine (although really belonged in some other forum since this is a Byzantine forum and not a Latin forum). The problem was with some of the other posters who, for whatever reason, felt a need to disparage the liturgical praxis of the Latin Church.

Fr. Deacon Edward

I may or may not be older than Deacon Ed, but I actually do remember Vatican II. Pius XII was not against having a council, but thought that extensive preparation needed to take place before one could be called. A valid criticism of John XXIII has been, it seems to me, that he threw together a council at the last minute without adequate preparation. Of course, he didn't live to see it through, but I remember that he wouldn't allow Mass in the vernacular. In the hands of Paul VI, I thought the German theologians actually sidetracked the council to fit their own agendas. I do expect to see some corrections made during the pontificate of good Pope Benedict, whom I consider to be a gift to the Church.

No, not yet but when I do I'll tell you all about it.
Thanks. smile
