Look what I found -

ICONS [heritage.sleeplion.org]

I did a size and currency conversion and the small 3.6x4.17(inches) sells for $23. The larger 7.87x9.448 (inches) sells for $1,197.

What do you think?

Rose,

A few years back a friend gave me one of the wooden icons of Saint Nicholas (larger size) as a gift. They are quite well done. As far as the cost, that may be another factor.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

The icons are pleasant - and the price tag is absurd.

I am sure some good wood carver could make replicas if you wanted them. I have seen some similar ones that a wood carver gave to the Melbourne Russian Catholic Centre.

It has become possible to duplicate such wood carving by lasor-equippped machinery. Obviously one would not wish to endorse the notion that a machine-made product was done by holy monks in a hermitage, but it could still be pleasant to have. How often do we purchase vestments made exclusively of hand-woven materials?

Excuse me that I interfere. These wooden icons are made by two different manners and it is a reason of the difference in prices.

The small ones are made in a technique of the ancient Babylon wood carving. (You can find more detail description at the mentioned web site). Only 15 years ago an opportunity to reopen it has appeared. Knowledge of this technique is a secret of my family.

The share of hand making to produce the small icons is approximately 90%, but thanking to the ancient secret it is much cheaper, than 100% manual job (and even than machinery production).

It has allowed us to start the international charity program ICONS FOR BLIND CHILDREN. And we will be glad to invite everyone to take part in this program.
