Hello all--I am new to this message board. I would like to know if anyone could direct me to a source for Eastern rite prayer books, mainly books which could be used for everyday prayer--personal or family prayer. Is there a good online or mail order source for this? Thank you so much for any assistance you can give me.

Dear Simplicity, Fr. John Whiteford has an excellent on-line collection of prayer resources at http://pages.prodigy.net/frjohnwhiteford/services.htm If you click on "Private Prayers" that will take you to an on-line version of the very excellent Jordanville Prayerbook. Both the Jordanville prayerbook and the excellent Old Rite (Russian Old Orthodox) prayerbook are available from St. John of Kronstadt Press, www.sjkp.org [ sjkp.org] Besides the Jordanville, Archbishop Joseph Raya's "Byzantine Daily Worship" is very good, available from either Light or Life in Minneapolis as well as Icon and Book Service in Washington, D.C. Another good prayer book is "The Hours of Prayer: A Book of Devotion" which used to be available from St. Vladimir's Seminary Press.

Two books that I like: "Orthodox Prayer Book" by Mother Cassiana. http://www.light-n-life.com/shopping/order_product.asp?ProductNum=OZPR100 "Book of Prayer" by the Melkite Eparchy of Newton. (I don't have a web address for this one.) I would say that both these books are suitable for use by Orthodox or Eastern Catholics. The first one is more "complete" than the second, but both are good and user friendly. Dave

My favorite prayer book is the one compiled by Fr. Anthony Coniaris, I believe it's called "My Eastern Orthodox Prayer Book," or something like that. Many beautiful prayers in there from many saints, for many occasions and circumstances.
Does anyone know where one could get a copy of the typica service for use in the home? I have tried to find it and can't and since I don't always make it to church I would like to have this.

Westerner, There's a copy on-line at: Typika [ pages.prodigy.net] The above is a single page within the site that Anhelyna links to in the post below. You may also want to check out: When No Priest Is Available [ orthodoxinfo.com] Many years, Neil

As given by Diak earlier in the thread - Fr John Whiteford 's site. http://pages.prodigy.net/frjohnwhiteford/services.htm I have downloaded this and used it. There's an incredible amount of resources there - enjoy Anhelyna

For translation, my personal favorite is The Jordanville Prayerbook. Also, it has the complete rule of Preparation of Holy Communion and a short form of Vespers.
The prayerbook I use daily for everything is The Hours of Prayer, which is a translation of the 1793 Molitvoslov of the Monastery of Pochaev with the format the two volume set Livre de Priere, published by the Orthodox Christians of France. It has all the daily prayers, a short form of all the Hours, the Prayers of Preparation for Holy Communion, and many other wonderful prayers. The later was done by Father Hieromonk Leonty (Durkit), together with his parish of The Orthodox Brotherhood of the Virgin Mary.
Pray without ceasing!
In His Holy Name, +Father Gregory
+Father Archimandrite Gregory, who asks for your holy prayers!
