This would be an interesting conversation to let individuals take a look at.

Are developing picture books which character Jesus ok or is it a form of idolatry since we have never seen Christ in the flesh?

Actually, there is no need to discuss this. The use of icons has already been discussed (the Second Council of Nicaea, A.D. 787) and the Church has determined that they are legitimate. And just because we have never seen Christ in the flesh doesn't mean He wasn't here in the flesh. In fact, the very first anathema of this particular council states:
Quote
If anyone does not confess that Christ our God can be represented in his humanity, let him be anathema.
So, to preclude any flame wars (or the imposition of this anathema), I'm going to close this topic immediately.
