Hello all,
I am writing something to give my Fianc, about the fruits of the Holy Spirit. I am trying to find the life of a saint (or future saint...) for each fruit. So far the only one I am missing is Patience. Any ideas? It doesn't have to be a saint, could just be a great example.

The others I have found are:

Self Control: Saint Agnes and Saint Thomas Aquinas
Love: Saint Dominic
Goodness: JPII
Peace: Saint Elizabeth of Portugal
Joy: Saint Philip Neri
Faith: SAint Joseph
Generosity: Mother Theresa of Calcutta
Gentleness: Theotokos

If you have any other suggestions for any of these, they are also more than welcome!
God Bless,
Filipe

Good morning Filipe,
Yes, I believe it is St. Paul who is invoked for the virtue of Patience. I have the info here somewhere--I'll look today and get back to you about the specifics.

Filipe,

Usually this site: http://www.catholic-forum.com/saints/patron00.htm has everything you would want to know about what saint is patron of what...but there's nothing for patience.

Since he'll probably be canonized before you finish composing your letter  - you could use John Paul II for patience; he certainly had lots of it! Lots of saints could be used for the "goodness" category, but I think JPII is one of the most obvious contemporary examples of patience.

Thank you Simplicity,
I will wait for the specifics, because, in my ignorance, I find it difficult to associate St. Paul with the virtue of patience. He usually comes across as being so energetic and frantic. Not to say he did not possess the virtue, just not the first name to spring to mind. I'm curious to see what you have to share with us about him.

As for JPII, as you can see I am already thinking of "using" him for Goodness.
I am writing about the glorious mysteries of the Rosary (I am NOT trying to reignite the Rosary debate here again!). Currently I'm working on the descent of the Holy Spirit, I used JPII already on the first mystery, the Ressurection... I wanted to vary a bit...

Santa Pacincia is a very portuguese expression, and one I use too often! It really drives home the idea that it is a virtue and a gift! One I sometimes should strive harder to deserve!

Thanks for your help!
Filipe

Hi again Filipe,
It has taken me most of the day, but I was finally able to locate the holy card I was thinking of with the prayer to St. Paul for patience on the back of it. I'm assuming that possibly he is invoked for this virtue because he overcame impatience in himself, with the grace of God, and could obtain for us from Him those same graces we need to obtain this also.
So here is this prayer for you and your fiance. smile
Prayer for Patience
O glorious St. Paul, who from a persecutor of Christianity, didst become a most ardent apostle for zeal; and who to make known the Savior Jesus Christ unto the ends of the world didst suffer with joy imprisonment, scourgings, stonings, shipwrecks and persecutions of every kind, and in the end didst shed thy blood to the last drop, obtain for us the grace to receive, as favors of the Divine mercy, infirmities, tribulations, and misfortunes of the present life, so that the vicissitudes of this our exile will not render us cold in the service of God, but will render us always more faithful and more fervent. Amen.
