Permit me to share with you one of the most beautiful pictures I have come across of a priest celebrating the Divine Liturgy. (I have no idea if this picture is copyrighted. I believe I found it on a Russian site.) [ Linked Image]

Nice! As is evidenced by this photo, Gospel Books in Russia only come in two sizes: extra small and extra HUGE. Dave

Yes, beautiful!
And the Lamb is quite visible! Would that more Eastern Catholic celebrations followed the traditional pattern instead of the pre-cut particles.

I always liked how the priest "dresses" the altar corners with the diskos and chalice covers - like epaulettes

That picture is a most grace-filled (and kind) gift for Holy Pascha. Now if I can only discover how to down-load it and have it framed, I shall do precisely that; it will look lovely on my wall.

OK - teaching time needed here Plaschanitsya on the altar Diak - the higgerant needs to know where is the Paschanitsya ? Yes I do know what it is. After all I will never again have such a wonderful view of the Holy Table as that. Anhelyna

Incognitus, Right click on the picture and either choose "Print" or "Save picture as", that will download it to your harddrive and you can then print it. Shawn, Thank you for the photo - it is beautiful. I doubt that the photo is copyrighted but it is hot-linked, meaning that it isn't loaded directly on this site. Rather, it is directly linked to the site from which it originated and is using that website's bandwidth. That's a bad thing, called "theft of bandwidth". It costs the site owner and has caused more than one site to shut down for a period when their monthly allocation of bandwidth is exceeded. When folks have a picture that they wish to share, I would suggest that they either: - post a link to the site on which it is, or
- download the image to their harddrive and then arrange with the Admin to e-mail it to him for posting here.
Neither of those options abrogates the issue of copyright infringement, but either avoids the "hot-link" dilemna. It's likely the image will disappear, once the site owner perceives that his bandwidth is being used to support it (or one of the Mods here edits the photo out and replaces it with a link - which is what should be done). I'm posting a link below to the image on its original site - as well as links to several other photos on the site. Anhelyna, at the Ninth Ode of the Canon of Holy Saturday the priest places the Plashchanytsya on the altar. It remains until the Apodosis of Pascha, and the Antimenson and sacred vessels are placed directly on top of it.
If you look closely you can see it underneath the chalice, diskos and antimenson which are centered over the image of our Lord in the tomb. In the picture it is a darker crimson or burgandy with gold fringes contrasted to the altar linens which are gold and brighter red.

Actually, I've put it on my own webspace. I just realized now that it is popular enough that it is exceeding my servers transfer capacity. I'll try and put them where someone indicated on here. (Or if someone else can do it before I get a chance, please go ahead). By the way, if there is anything you can indeed correct about those pictures, whether some are or are not what I understand them to be, please correct.
The original document is based off a document found on EWTN by Dr. Colin Donovan in listing some of the various churches and rites. I was trying to find some pictures of these various rites. I didn't use them all in the html document as I didn't like them all.
If you want to see the document, look here:
http://ca.geocities.com/Credo@rogers.com/rites/rites.html
Any corrections from an Eastern perspective would be helpful as I wish to be accurate and respectful.
