Dear Mary, Theosis is surely a gift! I thought you knew a short-cut to it though . . . Here is the article on Carmel we were talking about before: http://www.geocities.com/toc_phil/east.htm?20059 Cheers, Alex

Cheers,
Alex Oh but there is a shortcut!!...Two in fact. One the discipline is so perfect that God's will and your will are indestinguishable, and the other one is through the briar patch. I don't recommend the first one; it leaves scars, and I am too late for the first... Thank you very much for the article!! Mary

Dear Alex, Did a young man named Ruel post this link initially? It's a good article by the Definiter General of the OCD's. I had never seen it before. It is concise. I am in the process of doing a set of reflections on Brother Lawrence of the Resurrections on-line for some seculars and got off onto a side track where I was able to draw direct connections between the maxims of Evagrios and the detailed points made by St. Teresa of Avila, particularly in the Way of Perfection. I found many who embraced a look back to the roots of the teachings of the reformed Carmelite saints but there was also resistance, but I have yet to know if it was to me or to the material. Blessings....Mary

Dear Mary,
Yes, I believe it was our Ruel who posted it initially.
I've always believed in the connection of Carmel to the Christian East and this author makes that connection very explicit.

Alex Explicit can be a very good thing. Then there's the Basil, Benedict, Bernard, and ThomOx connection, through Dionysius, Symeon and John "Pinch Nose" Cassian!! Those fellows would have made spiritual minced pie out of us!! Talk about short-cuts...We'd be cut short!! Mary
