I spoke to our parish priest,he will help me make the transition into the Byzantne church. My kids were baptised in the Roman church as I was.my kids were chrismated in the Byzantine church though since we have been attending the byzantine church for some time now.
My question is this, how long does this process take(changing rites)and is it arduos?Thank you all. confused

The process is entirely one of paperwork, and is usually done in about a month, although it could take longer.

A month might be on the short side. I made the formal request on September 14, and the paperwork making it official was just received on February 8.

PS You can smooth the process by already having official copies of your baptismal record. It took several weeks for the various parishes that have been involved in baptizing members of my family to track down the records and make copies.

Ed,
Glory to Jesus Christ!
Your advice on the copy of the baptismal record is correct. I would add that the copy must be current, within a few months. So if you anticipate this need, you should request a current copy from the parish that baptized you (or is holding your baptismal records). A copy that you have been holding for a number of years would not be current enough.
Good luck,
Deacon El

Dear Deacon El,

Excellent advice and guidance on your part!

We need someone like you in our Eparchy of Eastern Canada.

That way, if anyone asked me for this type of information, I could immediately tell them to "Go to El!" smile
