Hello..I am a Roman Catholic who is very confused about recent happenings in my church. I want to raise my children Catholic, but feel very disenfranchised due to recent happenings. First of all, has the Byzantine Catholic Church had the same problems and could someone tell me of a church in the Pittsburgh area...I live near the North Side.............Thanks for any insight!

Christ is born ! Glorify Him !
Welcome Karen
I also am Roman Catholic and you will find plenty of people here to answer your questions.
We all share your concerns about the recent [ and the not so recent but have only recently come to light] happenings in the Church.
I do not think any Church is free of this problem but it is not as apparent in some.
We must all pray for the clergy.

Dear Karen,
Sadly, this matter has been a problem in the Byzantine Catholic Church as well. To the degree some Byzantine Catholic parishes still follow the Orthodox tradition of trusteeship, some feel this offers better protection from bishops who would harbor such clergymen. Others feel this does not make much of a difference.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and thoughts. You are so kind and I do appreciate it! I have only attended Eastern services while I was overseas, specifically Moscow, Ukraine, and Istanbul. I couldn't begin to claim I know the ins and outs. I'm familiar with Roman Catholic Doctrine..who wouldn't be after years of Catholic education. But what traditions do the Byzantines differ from the Romans. Also, could someone perhaps direct me to a website or book that I could get more information? Thanks, Karen

Karen, I doubt if I could answer any questions [ I'm also a 'learner' ] but you only need to ask here, and the answers will come at you thick and fast. As you may have seen - there are Priests, Deacons and subdeacons all who post here - and they are very friendly - not forgetting all the other wonderful folk as well . Your Eastern Primer is here - no doubt about it. Angela

As I pondered on whether to enter the Church or not the whole modern movement in the Church made it very difficult. Trusting in God is never easy but its something we must due. Thats what faith is.
Abba Isidore the Priest: When I was younger and remained in my cell I set no limit to prayer; the night was for me as much the time of prayer as the day. (p. 97, Isidore 4)
