Can a married man be ordained a priest in a Eastern Catholic Church in the USA?

Sincerely,

I believe a married man was ordained about two years ago in either the Stanford or Newton eparchy. The ordaining Bishop reviewed their canon law, and decided that it was perfectly legal!

Bishop Basil Losten ordained two married men in the Stamford eparchy in August, 2001. Bishop John Elya ordained a married man in Newton in 1998 or 1999. I've also heard that Bishop Robert Moskal also ordained a married man in the last couple of years in Parma.

It is perfectly "legal" in the sense that it is allowed by the Eastern Code of Canons.

But regardless of the legalistic basis the ordination of married men is a well-established practice of the Byzantine tradition. Currently only the Ukrainian and Melkite Catholic eparchies have returned to this practice in the USA.

There is talk from other eparchies besides the Ukrainian and Melkite about this practice, but no action yet.

The Melkites just ordained an American Deacon, married, this summer. He went to the middle east to be ordained, however.

For the record, there are five or six married priests in the Eparch of Newton (Melkite) and two were ordained in the United States, the rest in the Middle East.

Our Eparchy of St. Nicholas (Chicago) has somewhere around 40-50 % married priests currently. There are a couple more in the works.

The Stamford eparchy is probably pretty close to that ratio as well.

Have the Melkites ordained anyone else in the USA since their groundbreaking ordination in 1997. (I think)Were the Ukrainian ordinations held in the USA? In my humble opinion the Ban will be officially dead when the Byzantines finally ordain a married candidate

All this talk about ordaining married men in the United States baffles me!
Like the bumper sticker says "Just do it"
The Eastern Code of Canon Law recognizes the right or their Churches to Ordain Married men.

Live by your Canons and Tradition, no one will stop you.
