Sometime back there was discussion of a womens monastery being formed in Alaska is this still in the works ? The home page for the church in anchorage has a article on monasticism written by an ermetical nun . Does anyone know who she is ?

Dear Fr. Deacon John,
I wish to apologize if anything I had said regarding the community in Olympia has brought grief to you, your bishop or the Eparchy of Van Nuys. I first posted a question regarding whether there was a website for the said community. I didn�t expect such a response.
After your comment, I began to wonder how communities get started if they are not promoted or whether vocations are told of their existence. Again, I apologize if I thought aloud too much.
I understand fully about background checks, formal procedures, investigations, securing stability, etc. prior to any eparchy officially recognizing and canonically establishing them. Nobody wants to do up another Florida scenario. I once attended paschal services at the now defunct monastic/parish center (Three Holy Hierarchs) many years ago. What I learned there was quite sobering.
I once applied to the diaconate three times before our former bishop even knew I did and was sent to six intensive interviews with the local Latin deacon program (because I was told in writing that my eparchy wasn�t using the Pittsburgh program). I know a lot about paperwork and where things can go wrong. Nobody is asking for a quick track to canonical elevation.
But I don�t remember such a defensive posturing when Holy Resurrection was seeking canonical elevation. In fact, there seemed to be much advertising. One news article even mentioned the former bishop, his Grace George, giving them a blessing as they began their journey seeking canonical recognition. Their community was of discussion on these forums up to their establishment as a �monastery.� One member even participated in forum discussions for awhile.
Now, I can�t even remember how I came across Holy Theophany�s existence and why I wanted to know if they had a website. All this talk about official titles and canonical processes de-railed my thought process.
Well, I wish them luck and I will pray for them.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
My confirmation sponsor (in the Latin rite) is a good friend of the nuns in Holy Theophany Community, has helped the nuns quite a bit, and even plans to move up there to live close to the community. They can be interpreted as the aspiring female version of Holy Resurrection Monastery in the Eparchy of Van Nuys, and the nuns are the spiritual daughters of Hegumen Nicholas of Holy Resurrection. Please pray for the success of this community.

(former deacon student) Joe, you did not cause me any grief  . As I posted earlier Holy Resurrection was canonically erected as a Pious Association (CCEO nn. 573-583) by Bishop George, so he did more than just bless their journey. When Van Nuys began to "advertise" Holy Resurrection, they had canonical status. As a result, Holy Resurrection had the full faith and support of the Bishop of Van Nuys. I just wanted to put your question in its proper perspective, I don't see that as an attempt on my part to discredit. I did not imagine that a simple answer of "If it's not on the Eparchial directory, it doesn't exist" would have sufficed.
