My prayer rope fell apart after a couple of days...can anyone suggest a better, more solidly built komboskinia?

I've had the best luck with one I got from Fr. Basil at Holy Resurrection Monastery. Apparently it was made on Mt Athos.
Actually, one of the arms of the cross kinda "exploded" within a week after I got it, but a bit of attention with needle & thread set it to rights, and it's been fine for the couple of years I've had it now.

I am using the knotted ropes, is it normal that they come undone?
When did Byzantine Catholic's switch to beads?

When did Byzantine Catholic's switch to beads? Dear Monk,, I can't answer that - but I have a little Chotki of Job's tears seeds and that came from a Serbian Orthodox Church. Surely what you use is what suits you ?

I can't answer that - but I have a little Chotki of Job's tears seeds and that came from a Serbian Orthodox Church.

I always buy devotional objects such as prayer ropes and icons from monasteries; while they may be a little more expensive, the quality and craftsmenship gives you something that will last, also you know you are supporting monastic vocations.

http://www.rosaryarmy.com/ I found a great site that has instructions for making a rope rosary, it would be simple to make a komboskinia with the same method.
