When you are asked to pray that someone may be saved from bodily death, for instance, from drowning, from death through any sickness, from fire, or from any other disaster, commend the faith of those who ask you to do so, and say in yourself: Blessed be your faith, according to your faith may the Lord fulfil my unworthy, feeble prayer, and may He increase my faith.
St. John of Kronstadt, My Life in Christ
When hungry, do not throw yourself upon food - else you will overload your heart and body. Eat slowly, without avidity, with reflection to the glory of God, remembering the God Who feeds us, and above all His incorruptible food, His Body and Blood, that out of love He has given Himself to us in food and drink, remembering also the holy word of the Gospel.

Dear Pani Rose,
Thank you for the postings. I have the book MY LIFE IN CHRIST, By Saint John of Kronstadt, and am ashamed to say, I have yet to finish it. It is so long and so profound. I see it as second only to the Bible.
I personally believe all priests, should incorporate a part of his writings into their sermons. Father Arseny, who suffered in the Gulag, stated that had more people in Russia...and especially the priests, followed Saint John of Krontstadt's teachings, they would not have had the Bolshevik revolution.
It seems our Lord always sends his great saints to purify a land, so that disaster will not strike. Saint John of Krontsadt was that saint.

Zenovia, that is one of those books that can only be read a page or two at a time, because at least in my case I had to go back over and over because of the profundity of what he was saying. It took me several months to get through it as well. St. John of Kronstadt, pray to God for us!

"My Life in Christ" is a remarkable work. There once was a collated guide to its contents, but that seems to have disappeared. Perhaps a Forum member knows where that is nowadays. The copy of the book I have reads like a personal journal (Well, it is!), so it lacks organization into smaller sections with indices, which makes it harder to follow, if you're used to systematic organization. St. John's meditations on particular themes would benefit from some tabs, at least. Post-it tabs have helped me some.
