Greetings to all.

Slava Isusu Christu!

I made a new friend in Richmond VA (hi Olga)and provided her with the information for the Byzantine Mission and St. John the Baptist info from http://www.crosslink.net/~hrycak/ch_indx/us-va.html but when she calls, she is unsuccessful in contacting anyone. confused

Are these still existant in the Richmond area? Is there any Byzantine activity in Richmond? I would really appreciate any information. Olga is very excited in attending Divine Liturgy and joining the fellowship of the Church.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

In Christ,

Michael

The Byzantine-Ruthenian mission was an outreach from Ascension of Our Lord Parish in Williamsburg. The correct phone number is 757-253-5641.

The Byzantine-Ukrainians were, at one time, collecting names for a possible mission. I would recommend contacting Father Taras Lonchyna at Holy Trinity Parish in Silver Spring, MD for information. His phone number is 301-421-1739.

If I recall correctly, the Byz liturgy here in Richmond was being held in the chapel of a convent of Fransican Sisters who have a day care in the Lakeside area (anyone in Richmond knows where this nieghborhood is). Th ename of the convent alludes me.

wink of course she is always welcome to attend the OCA church w/ me....

Thank you again so much. I have relayed this information to Olga.

David, a quick question for you please. Have you noticed an increase in membership within the last year or two? My corporate company is in Richmond and we have had a large influx of talent from Eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, etc.).

I am just curious if you have seen these influx.

Thank you.

Michael

We closed the Byzantine-Ruthenian mission in January of 1996. Interest was lagging at the time that I became pastor of Ascension, I was only a priest for 6 months at that time, and three widely dispersed parishes was too much.

Bless, Father Hatten,

I appreciate the update and will advise Olga accordingly, if she has not contacted you yet.

I only hope and pray that eventually, the demographics change and interest will again be generated to start a parish this time.

In Christ,

Michael
