P.S. Perhaps our Western brethren could adopt this icon for the Feast of Corpus Christi. Hello Father! Yes! Great idea. I think the western church needs more icons.

Y'allthank you so much, this has been a wonderful read, educating, and in some ways adoring the beauty of Christ. In its beauty and simplicity it truly does portray Christ's life, death, and resurrection in one icon. That he knew from all time what he was to do, and willing gave the Triune God's all for us, that we too might become.

In fact, St Nicholas UGCC parish in Toronto has the Melismos icon.
I find it curious that St Peter Mohyla in his Sluzhebnyk and instructions to priests mentions that there were Eucharistic miracles during the Divine Liturgy where consecrated elements turned into a Child . . .
In such a case, he instructs the priest to cover the chalice and place it to one side, checking it every so often, to see if the miracle has turned back into the Holy Eucharist. If not, St Peter advises, then the priest is to prepare fresh bread and wine for consecration just before the time for the Communion . . .
