Does anyone know of an Orthodox or Catholic Church in or around Sacramento, California that sells Perogi? Prefer the bigger Ukie style...

Pyrhoy are a staple in certain areas of the Northeast...
They really aren't hard to make, grab a recipe online (there are a zagillion) and go to town! In true Slav style you have to make sure they're cooked in way too much butter and have the onions chopped up real fine. Oh, and if you've never eaten a fried Pyrohy, I suggest it, they're AMAZING.
Now, do you want those as Pyrohy of the True Faith, Byzantine Pyrohy, or Orthodox Pyrohy. That's an inside joke here on town hall, I'm sure someone will explain.
But seriously there are even fasting period pyrohi recipes, so you can enjoy them all year 'round.
You can put jalapeno cheese in them-
Jalapeno cheese pierogies were probably the way most rural Pennsylvanians and New Yorkers were introduced to Mexican style flavor..
You can put sauerkraut in them.. hey put pork and sauerkraut in them and you have a New Year's dinner in one tiny little package!
Ok, I'm done for now, ... I've never had sweet potato pierogies.
This time, I'm done for real.
Another suggestion is moving to PA, NY, MD, CT, where you'll always be near an Eastern Christian Church that has frequent pyrohy sales. I could add OH, but it's too far from a saltwater beach.

Christ is born!

Well about Perogi/pergosik (?) and BCC Parishes. Depending on how good your Ukranian is- - - .
If Good try St. Andrews BCC on Florin RD (Epiacrhy of St. Nicholas). Ukn Language and Culture.

IF not so good or (like me) non existand try St. Philip the Apostle on 65th st.St. Philip has a web site and Fr. Randall has email.

IF EXCEEDINGLY DESPERATE - PM me and I will check with my (Gasp) Slavic Baptist friends/ex co-workers for the local source.

Being German-Irish extraction, we made only 70-80 dozen for the Parish Festival (St. Philip's) with lots of help. She who MUST be obeyed says she WON'T make any for any one (including yours truly).

We buy frozen small perogi at Trader Joe's on El Camino. Perhaps I will get bold and try to make some for myself (doubtful), Sweet potato / Yam interesting thought. I had Sweet Potato Hash (interesting) when I was in Flordia recently. I think it originated with the Cuban Culture. Sweet Potato/Yam Perogi. Well time will tell

Best I can do for you, I can't discuss the Orthodox side of the Great Tomato, my ROCOR (proper abbreviation?) friend has retired and is in very ill health.

Ivan

I am in Indiana and the request is for a friend. Around here almost every real church takes perogi orders for around $5 a dozen... Let me know if you ever find a source there. It costs about $70 to ship a couple dozen out there in dry ice over night...

There are some good recipes in this cook book:
Cooking with Baba [slovakshop.com]

Also you can call my little Church: Sts. Cyril & Methodius I think we can ship some as well.
