Dear Diak: Thanks for complementing the music at V&O's. My bet is that probably you were referring to the "Prometheus" choir - the "main" parish choir that has been around since the parish's founding in '68. We also have two more: (1) "Krylos" which is most active during the Great Fast and Holy Week and (2) a new choir of mostly recent immigrants from Ukraine. Dear All: Regarding the bishop situation, I think ukipatr meant that we are anxiously awaiting the installation of our new bishop as there are, unfortunately, certain issues in the Chicago eparchy that need to be addressed rather quickly. As for the almost exclusive use of Ukrainian, this is not an issue in our parish for now as the vast majority of our parishioners and attendees speak the lanaguage. However, we have been known to prepare English texts for visitors upon request. Of course, those familiar with the Byzantine Rite should know what's going on anyway. Yours, kl

And to add to KL there should be a parish where the new immigrants feel at home. And judging by the younger families the last time I was at V&O it seems they have found a home there.
I noticed Bishop-elect Richard's former parish occasionally had Vespers. This is a very good sign. And you are absolutely right, the new Bishop-elect will have a full plate dealing with past business when he steps into the chancery.

Every time I go out to Chicago I usually attend Sts. V & O which is always a pleasure. I really enjoyed the music because I am co-diak and my church is rather small and we have maybe 6 singers and no one in the congregation sings so its always nice to go to a truely Eastern church and hear good music.

Very nice website!
I would enjoy it if the icon section had icons from the church and iconostas. The work of Ivan Dykij and Archimandrite Cyprian is very beautiful.

The icons on the iconostas are the work of archbishop Elipi of ROCOR.
The website is still in construction stage. You'll see icons from the church soon.

Bishop Alipij of Chicago and not Archimandrite Cyprian of Jordanville? Okay, I guess I will trust you. Either way, they are really, really nice.

Dear Friends,
The icons at St Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Toronto were written by Dykyj and one other of the ROCOR jurisdiction.
They were obliged to write an icon of St Josaphat that is there.
I was wondering if they could do this in good conscience, as Orthodox, given the nature of the subject . . .?
A question I always wanted to ask.

Alex I just could not see this myself. Being a former member of ROCOR I still have a great fondness for that jurisdiction. But it sounds almost amazing that any bishop (Or almost anyone at all) Frm her fold would willingly agree to write ikons for a "uniate" church. Robert

Daniil Now that you mention the name of Archbishop Alipij, this whole question makes more sense. He is a very kind man and a dear Vladyka to his flock. In fact, as a understand it, some fanatical quarter of ROCOR is trying to accuse him of some unspeakable crime (Like concelebrating with the Serbs). I truly fine Bishop, if ever one existed. Robert.

Thats becasue he's Ukrainian!
YUP, he was born in Eastern Ukraine. I met him becasue me and my fellow V and O "seminarians/students" go to his cathedral once in a while (he did all of the iconography in the church himself) and he truly is a very kind and humble man.
Pray for him because he seriously hurt himself last spring when he fell off a tree picking apples (sounds goofy but it happens) He is confined to a wheel chair.
